The Michigan State Spartans and the North Carolina Tar Heels tipped off the first college basketball telecast of the 2011-12 seasons by facing off in the Quicken Loans Carrier Classic. This event took place on November 11, 2011, on the flight deck of the USS Carl Vinson in San Diego, California, marking the first-ever NCAA game to be played on an active aircraft carrier.
